In a country where poverty and inequality are widespread, women in particular often suffer due to social stigmas, conflict, health issues and political/cultural restraints. In order to assist with breaking the cycle of poverty and crime, PA Nepal works actively in communities to empower women through education and training. We believe that these initiative also have a positive impact upon crime reduction and the protection of basic human rights.
Whilst these programs are predominantly focused on women that have been released from prison, or have partners who are currently imprisoned, PA Nepal recognises the importance of opening up such initiatives to the wider community. Subsequently, we aim to provide a positive and supportive environment where women are encouraged to take part in activities that build their self-esteem and self-reliance. Recent initiatives have included:
- Training in income generation
- Micro finance
- Work placement
- Life skills training
