What to Expect as a Volunteer

Life as a volunteer at PA Nepal is guaranteed to be an experience you won't soon forget. Most volunteers work in our Children's Homes for varying lengths of time. At present we ask for a commitment of at least 2 months when volunteering. This aims to reduce the attachment difficulties some the children experience with high turnovers of volunteers. The only skills required are maturity and a desire to bring some love and compassion into the lives of some very special children.

The amount time involved in volunteering at PA Nepal each day is based largely on the Home at which you are placed. Volunteers have the possibility to be placed at either our Kathmandu Home or one of our rural Homes.

Those volunteering in our Kathmandu Home typically assist the children in the morning before school and in the afternoon. Tasks include assisting with homework and playing with the children during their free time. Of course if you wish to participate beyond this then you are always welcome to discuss your ideas with our staff.

Volunteers placed at one of our rural Homes however, will be involved in a more full-time commitment as these Homes are not near any major cities. Tasks at the rural Homes include assisting with labouring and farming in addition to the normal tasks with the children. For those seeking a more relaxing volunteer experience with free time during the day, the Kathmandu Home may be more suited to you.

PA Nepal does not charge a fee to volunteer. However, for those interested in staying at one of the rural Homes there is a small accommodation fee to cover bedding and meals.
